was our last day in amazing Dingle. While sad, we had a must see stop on the way to Galway at the Cliffs of Moher.

We got up relatively early as we had a lot of driving today. We started by driving up and over the Conor Pass near Dingle which goes up and between 2 mountains and at the top is a very narrow single lane road along a cliff side. We stopped at an overlook at the top of and met a roadside sheep. It was a close call to talk Becky out of putting it in the car with us to bring home.

We then proceeded towards the ferry between Tarbert and Killimer along the Wild Atlantic roadway. On the way we stopped at a gas station and got breakfast (Irish breakfast in a box for Becky and on a roll for me). Next stop was the Cliffs of Moher.

This stop is among the top sites in Ireland and it lived up to expectations both for the views and for the windy weather! We stopped in the visitor center before heading up to the cliffs and ended up running into a couple we have seen 3 times now as we are all on the same loop. This time we decided we needed to take a pic together since we were practically traveling together. We will see if we see them again down the road. The cliffs are amazing to see and imagine the power of the sea beating against them every day. Becky got to see lots of birds and we think we could see puffins again but it was far off and our binoculars aren’t far reaching. After walking to the 2 main viewpoints we headed out to find lunch in Doolin.

We had been recommended Gus O’Connor’s for a lunch stop near the cliffs so we headed there and grabbed lunch before heading into the Burren. The Burren is a geological formation that is glacial and left rocks very near the surface across a large swath of land south of Galway. Between the glaciers and man’s stripping of the trees it has left a desolate looking area covered in limestone rocks and not much topsoil. There was also an ancient burial site there called Poulnabrone Dolmen. This is a stone “table” looking rock that was used as a burial site by ancient people. The site is estimated to be from 3800-3200 BC!

From there we were ready to get to Galway and our hotel so we drove on in and checked in to our hotel right on the main tourist drag. After settling in we headed out for our usual town walk on getting to a new location. After seeing the sites we ended up near McDonagh’s fish and chips and decided to grab dinner and turn in early for the night. This might have been my favorite fish and chips so far in Ireland and that’s among very good company.
