Travel day

We started off with a ride to the airport from our wonderful neighbor Heath and all seemed well as all of our flights appeared to be on time. As the time for our flight got closer though we noticed the incoming plane being delayed more and more and saw it was due to a big storm around the airport. Eventually we got going but the plane was about an hour late which would make us miss the connection in Chicago. I contacted United support through chat as we taxied to see what our options were. They quickly agreed we would not make the connection so they got us booked on the same flight tomorrow. Late in the flight we got a notice that the original flight was delayed 15 minutes but that was still going to be unlikely we would make it but we decided it was worth getting off quickly and seeing if we could make it. As we landed we got a notice that it was delayed even further so we quickly walked through the terminal to reach the gate for the Milan connection. When we arrived we talked to the gate agent and told him our situation and he looked and found there were 2 seats available just not together. We quickly agreed to switch back and he called to try and get our bags properly redirected. We landed safely a little later than planned in Milan and bags arrived as well. We headed straight to our apartment near the Milano Centrale train station which will be our transportation hub the next few days here in Milan. After a quick freshening up and a snack or two we headed back out to go see the Duomo (large cathedral in central Milan), the Galleria and to grab a fried calzone/pizza from a place nearby recommended by our good friends Mike and Steph.

We spent a little time admiring the interior of the Duomo then walked through the Galleria to see the fancy shops.

Leah would be in heaven there but they might need a second mortgage to cover the shopping spree! 😂 The fried pizza (not positive of the correct name) was so good. It’s basically like a fry bread wrapped around pizza toppings. After eating we walked back to the Duomo and looked closer at the outside facade of the building and all of the carved statues and gargoyles. By this time it was about 730 or so and we were definitely starting to run down. We headed back to the apartment to wind down take a nice shower and hit the sack. We have an early day tomorrow as we will head over to Lake Como and do a quick day tour around the lake and villas.
