5/17-5/18 – Planes, trains and …..busses?

We finished up packing on Wednesday by mid day and after saying goodbye to the puppies and settling in Donna who will be house sitting for us we headed to the airport.

We were our usual 3 hours early and we got our bags checked and darted through the TSA Precheck line. ABIA recently added a Chase Sapphire Terrace on the international end of the terminal so we decided to hang out there pre flight. It was pretty nice. It’s a mostly outdoor area with some seating and a games area. You can get free drinks and snacks so that was nice to eat a little before taking off.

The flight itself was relatively uneventful though we did splurge a little and got Economy Plus seats which was a little nicer and roomier than usual. Becky got a little sleep while as usual I barely dozed. Passport control was all automated though I apparently was putting my passport in the machine.wrong multiple times. Everything else was pretty straightforward and we grabbed our checked bags and headed to the Heathrow Express terminal.

Headed into Paddington and changed over to the Underground but ended up getting some looks from Becky over the number of stairwells we had to maneuver getting through the tube stations and to the hotel. We got the the hotel too early to check in so we dropped our bags and headed to the British museum nearby.

We saw the usual stuff at the British museum like the Rosetta stone, the Parthenon sculptures and tons of Greek, Egyptian and other historical items. I did just about break Becky with the combination of tiredness, crowds, listening to audio tours and talking to her all at once. Having survived that we headed back to the hotel to check in shower and change.

Wow definitely felt like new people after the shower and were ready to hit the British library. We took the bus over to the library and went through their gallery which was a collection of old manuscripts from reformation bibles, a Gutenberg bible, the magna Carta, DaVinci drawings to Beatles lyrics on a birthday card. We wandered around the library a little more but by this time we were getting hungry again.

We had seen an Indian restaurant near the hotel that got good reviews so we headed there to eat dinner. Taste of India was the restaurant and it was very tasty and definitely hit the spot. By this time we were both starting to wind down so we are now in the hotel room writing and possibly nodding off. More London tomorrow!
