Woke up and had a traditional German breakfast in the hotel. This consisted of bread, cold cuts and cheese, yogurt, fruit and muesli.
After breakfast we finished packing and loaded the car before doing a walking audio tour of Rothenburg. Rothenburg as mentioned before is a medieval walled town that is remarkably well preserved and we wandered through the winding streets and passages and learned more about the history of Rothenburg.

One legend is that when the Catholic army came to take over Protestant Rothenburg the mayor offered the general a drink of the local wine and after having a few the general offered to spare the town if anyone could chug a 3 liter stein of the wine in one go. The mayor took the challenge and the town was saved. This is definitely fiction to bring tourists to the town but it’s a fun story and the town glockenspiel reenacts it every hour.

This morning was rainy and windy and we had quite the time keeping our unbrellas intact and keeping my camera lens dry. We went through the main church which is huge for the town showing it’s former wealth in trade.

The church contains a relic that is supposedly a drop of Jesus’s blood. The relic.is contained in a huge beautiful carved wood altar that is hard to believe with it’s detail.

After doing a little shopping we ate a snack and headed out of town. We got on the road and were making good time when the Autobahn went from ludicrous speed to zero due to a bad crash. One interesting thing is that the traffic as it came.to a stop separated left and right leaving the middle of the road empty for official vehicles to get through.
A few went by and we we’re stuck for a good hour before getting moving again. Toward the end Becky was floating and beginning to eye the woods along the road and determining their privacy. Luckily the jam ended and we stopped at the next exit which happened to be a McDonald’s again so we grabbed lunch. The lunch menu was as entertaining as the breakfast and I had a pizza burger and a jalapeno cheese kind of nacho burger. Becky had a fancy egg burger. Also it came up at dinner how nice the McCafe’s were here and I checked this one out and sure enough it’s separate from the main counter and serves in real cups and dishes and has a variety of pastries to compete with any little cafe around here.

We are kinda getting the short end of the stick there. After getting going again we made good time and as we approached Fussen we got a view of the Alps surrounding the town which made a beautiful backdrop as we drove into town. We found our hotel and after parking and checking in we settled in to rest and write postcards/Christmas cards to send back to the States. After dropping off our postcards at the front desk we decided to walk to dinner at another gasthaus. I am beginning to like these as you always take the chance of sitting with another group. This didn’t happen tonight but it always makes things interesting.

We had a good dinner and decided to stroll the long way back to the hotel as the rain had mostly stopped.
