Monaco and Qualifying Day – 5/23

Got up this morning and made a quick market run and also got some cash as Becky and I would be on our own adventures today. I made us some breakfast (fried eggs and spanish ham and local melon). After I got ready I headed to the train station to go to Monaco for qualifying. The train station was busier than previous visits (note go early for race day) but after waiting a few minutes in line chatting with a friendly british couple we moved into the train station itself and got on our train.

I wandered a bit before going to my seats as I was early so I grabbed lunch and a few snacks to take to the seat and then headed on in. Today I am in the T stands and you follow a winding path over the track then back under the pitlane and back stretch to get to the seats.

Once in my seat I had a great view of the pits and all of the activity there. Qualifying started and I was texting with Ben while he watched it live back home so that was fun but next time he will just have to come with me for the full experience. 🙂 Hopefully if you are reading this you have watched or don’t mind spoilers but Lewis got the pole position for the race tomorrow so that was exciting. I stayed after qualifying for a bit to watch the first few laps of the GP2 series second race and got to see American Alexander Rossi compete. On my way back to the train station I did a little shopping and then headed back. It was a bit crowded but again they had it well managed and soon I was on a train back to Nice.

When I got back to Nice I stopped at the Monoprix (grocery store) on the way back to the apartment and let me tell you I am even more jealous that usual about other cities grocery situation. Monoprix has everything you could want from ready to go dinners, fresh bread of all sorts, a HUGE wine selection and fresh seafood, cheese and a massive selection of deli meats and butcher cut meats. I picked up what we needed for the apartment and headed home. Becky and I initially were going to try to go to a restaurant we had read about but they were full so we went to a place that specialized in Moules and Frites (Mussels and French Fries) and each got a different kind of mussels. On the way home of course we stopped in for a little ice cream as is our Niciose tradition.

Tomorrow is race day so again there will be very different stories at the end of the day.
